Spa Days in Senegambia

Louise Thomas is lucky enough to experience the spa facilities of top hotels in both Senegal and The Gambia, firstly Lamantin Beach in Saly and then Coco Ocean in Brufut.

Just a stone’s throw from the large feature pool, I made my way through to the impressive spa centre at the stylish Lamantin Beach hotel. Small and intimate, its elegant surroundings were beautifully designed and the light heavenly scents added to the irresistible tranquillity. I was greeted by friendly English speaking staff who presented me with an extensive list of treatments using techniques based on ancient principals of Chinese energy medicine.

The circular thalassotherapy spa looked tempting, however having opted for a luxury full body massage, I was led through to one of the surrounding treatment rooms. One hour later, I floated out of Lamantin’s spa and its serene surroundings, feeling completely relaxed with a strong sense of well being and a desire to return.

My next trip to West Africa, involved escorting a press group to The Gambia to introduce the wide-ranging choice of holidays available, including our newest luxury hotel - Coco Ocean Resort & Spa. On arrival, we were treated to a complimentary foot massage within the hotel’s impressive 1800 sq metre spa facility which included a thalassotherapy pool, sauna, plunge pool, fitness centre and relaxation lounges.

Its magnificent architectural features and opulent Moroccan influences were inspiring, and its location by the palm fringed beach, perfect. Offering nine ocean-view treatment rooms, the sounds of lapping waves added to the whole wonderful experience.

With an endless choice of treatments and specialist therapists on hand, I was definitely going to book up some more, and so next on my list was an exfoliating hammam. This traditional Moroccan steam bathing and cleansing routine has been used over the centuries for deep exfoliation, detoxification and moisturising and left me feeling incredibly refreshed and invigorated.
