Souimanga Lodge is surely the ultimate romantic hotel.  Secluded and remote, situated in the stunning Sine Saloum Delta, when staying in one of the five lodges here you certainly feel a million miles away from everything – so those who like to take the term ‘get away from it all’ literally, will not be disappointed.

The first thing that struck me about Souimanga Lodge was the magnificent view over the water surrounding it, abundant with a variety of bird life – a beautifully tranquil vista best appreciated when relaxing in the infinity pool!  Even though the pool and sundeck area is small, it’s very comfortable and in perfect keeping with the intimate feel this hotel has.

The bar and restaurant area is, again, small but perfectly formed, with lots of character, exuding the kind of charm that makes you feel you are somewhere very familiar.  The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was of a very high standard and beautifully presented, and you can dine inside or outside, either way getting a great view of the water.  You can even finish the evening off with a stroll down the jetty.

The lodges themselves are elegantly decorated with an African theme – lots of natural materials, authentic wooden ornaments and soft lighting – very homely.  Sliding patio doors open out onto the private terrace with a table and chairs, giving guests another option for where to can relax with a pre or post dinner drink.  Each room has air conditioning for cool relief on those balmy nights and the four-poster bed comes complete with mosquito nets.  The bathrooms are lovely too with twin sinks and a large walk in shower.

This is the place to come if you want a peaceful and indulgent break – and bird enthusiasts will be in their element thanks to the variety of species to be found here.  Most definitely somewhere that won’t be forgotten quickly.

Souimanga Lodge is only small, with 5 lodges, but you get the feeling that great care has been taken to make it as comfortable and elegant as possible.  It’s a perfect place for a romantic break. The rooms aren’t huge, and are dominated by a large 4-poster bed, but they are beautifully furnished with interesting pictures and ornaments.  The large, glass patio doors slide open onto a private decking area, which has chairs, a table, and sun-loungers, which is where you’ll probably spend a lot of your time in the morning or evenings.  The bathrooms are really unusual with twin basins and a huge walk-in shower.

The Lodge has a lovely, infinity swimming pool, which you can just walk into.  It’s fairly small but perfect for cooling off in.  The bar and restaurant are beautifully decorated with old photos of Dakar, St Louis and Senegal in general.  The food was wonderful – freshly cooked and served at stylish tables either inside or outside on the terrace.  With only a small number of guests, it was easy to get chatting to other people and also the owner and staff.
