Senegalese Dishes to Look Out For:

Mafé Groundnut sauce often with deep-orange palm oil added
Domodah Another version of Mafè (above)
Thiéboudienne The national dish of Senegal:
There are two varieties - Thieb Khonkhe is with tomato paste (in Gambia this is called Benechin) and Thieb Wekh is without. This is rice baked in a thick sauce with fish and vegetables
Yassa Poulet Chicken in an onion and lemon sauce
Yassa Poisson Fish in an onion and lemon sauce
Yassa Viande Meat (usually beef) in an onion and lemon sauce

 

Most of these dishes are served with rice, being the staple diet throughout Senegal. Various other delicacies exist but the above are the more common in restaurants.
