Fishing

Senegal offers fantastic fishing for enthusiasts as well as holidaymakers with a casual interest, from the Nile Perch in the Senegal River to the abundance of Sailfish and Marlin in its offshore waters.   Deep sea fishing can be arranged in Saly whilst more relaxing trips can be arranged in the creeks, rivers and mangroves of the Sine Saloum Delta.  Most hotels organise such trips either in small pirogues or motorised boats.

Depending on the time of year, you can catch a variety of fish: from June to November, Sailfish, Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna and, for the luckiest anglers, Blue Marlin!  From November to May, you can try out different fishing techniques such as ‘trolling’ and ‘static fishing’ to catch Tuna, Dorado, Mackerel and Bonito.

Hotels With Fishing Nearby

All of our hotels in Senegal can offer some sort of fishing nearby, in particular:

Hotel Domaine les Palétuviers

Hotel Domaine les Palétuviers can arrange river fishing the whole year in the Sine Saloum Delta where you can catch Bream, Grouper, Sea Perch, Coffer-Fish and Stingray.  They also offer trawling and surf casting.

Hotel Keur Saloum

Hotel Keur Saloum has its own landing stage on the Bandiala River, which leads to the Atlantic Ocean.  Their 14 canoes and skiffs are all equipped with 40hp engines, and they also have a larger fast boat, equipped with a 75hp motor, for ocean fishing.   The waters in the Sine Saloum Delta are an angler's paradise containing some of the highest numbers of fish in the world. Fishermen can encounter numerous species including Grouper, Barracuda, Nile Perch, Croaker, Red and White Carp, Sea Bream, Skate, Sea Bass and more.  The quantities and the size of the fish can be quite surprising. In 2001, a red carp weighing 60kg (world record) was caught, followed in 2002 by a stingray weighing in at 111kg.  The main types of fishing available are hand lining, trolling or surf casting.

The Hotel Espadon

The Hotel Espadon has its own fishing centre, considered to be one of the best in the country and perfect for offering some of the world’s best big-game fishing.

Their fishing captain, Gildas Richardeau, has been fishing the offshore waters of Senegal and Guinea Bissau for many years and knows where and how to catch fish. Whether you are an experienced or novice angler, he will help to improve your technique and to get the most out of your deep-sea fishing.

The Saly Fishing Club

The Saly Fishing Club was created by Jean Touly, who is passionate about fishing in Africa.  Nowadays it is one of the biggest sport fishing centres in West Africa with 8 fully equipped motorised boats.  Every year in the month of July, the Centre organises an international fishing competition.  www.salyfishingclub.com
