Car hire is available but not recommended due to driving etiquette and road conditions. The hotels can easily arrange reliable taxis for you, which are reasonably priced. There are also various buses and mini buses that run between the main towns although these can be of varying quality and efficiency! These range from the express buses, which tend to be 50-60 seaters and are a cheap, quick way to travel, to the ubiquitous white Mercedes buses that punctuate the landscape and seem to stop every 200 metres or so. These are a great way to get around if you have the time, as they’re generally speaking very sociable and a good deal of fun.
Please be aware that whilst travel in Senegal is generally very safe, some public taxis and mini-buses would not be considered roadworthy by UK standards. In the Sine Saloum Delta you can also get about by pirogue on the rivers or by horse-drawn charettes or calèches (buggies).
